Aidan’s First Cotillion

Aidan had his first Cotillion last night. He looked so cute all dressed up. He paid close attention as they explained how to do the Cha Cha and then did his best to get it right once they had them try it on their own. He was first paired with a girl he did not know. Later his partner was a girl from his school, Kelsey. Together they won the game. Aidan had to announce his name and his partners name to everyone as part of being the game winner. He did such a great job! Aidan picked out a football a his prize. He said he was surprised that they won. He also said that he enjoyed Cotillion and that he liked dancing with a girl he knew better than dancing with one he didn’t know.

Here’s some pictures from last night.

Baked Potato Soup

I made this soup tonight and it was so good! I’m posting it to my blog so I don’t loose the recipe.

INGREDIENTS

12 slices bacon
2/3 cup margarine
2/3 cup all-purpose flour
5 cups milk
2 cups chicken broth
4 large baked potatoes, peeled and cubed
4 green onions, chopped
1 1/4 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
1 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper

DIRECTIONS

Place the bacon in a large skillet. Cook over medium heat until browned. Drain, crumble, and set aside. In a stock pot , melt the margarine over medium heat. Whisk in flour until smooth. Gradually stir in milk and chicken broth, whisking constantly until thickened. Stir in potatoes, onions, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil, stirring frequently. Reduce heat, and simmer 10 minutes. Mix in bacon, cheese and sour cream. Be sure to save some bacon, cheese and sour cream to place on top of the soup when it is served. Continue cooking, stirring frequently, until cheese is melted.

Falyn past her swim survival test

Today Falyn past her swim survival test. They tossed her into the water with her clothes on. She swam to one side of the pool and then back across to the other side. She did so great! Unfortunately, it took me by surprise when they tossed her in the pool and I didn’t get it on video. I did get her swimming on video during her class though. She swims so well for only being 3!

My Parent’s Visit

For the past week my parents have been out here on a visit. We have really enjoyed having them here and the kids were all very sad to see them leave. They live in El Paso and only get to visit about once a year.

Here’s a picture of them with all the kids.

While they were here I taught my Mom and MIL how to tye-dye. They both had a great time and are going to try it again on their own.

We also took them to see our beach. They loved it and wished we could have stayed all day. My mom and Falyn are both wearing shirts from our tye-dye day.

Twin Tiger Cubs

Jared and Riley had their first cub scout meeting tonight. The looked so cute in their tiger cub uniforms! They enjoyed their meeting and are excited about being cub scouts.

Riley Lost Tooth #3

Riley came to me this afternoon complaining about his loose tooth. I decided to check to see how loose it was and as soon as I touched it it came right out. I held up the tooth and said to Riley, “This tooth?” He hadn’t even noticed it came out! We was excited to have it out and can’t wait for the tooth fairy to come tonight.

This Summer’s Garden

We had great success with our garden this summer. In June we planted Indian Corn, squash, carrots, cucumbers, peas, lettuce, onions, basil, carrots and bell peppers. Here’s what it looked like right after we planted it.

Here’s what it looked like in July. The corn grew so tall!

We were able to harvest a lot of vegetables and enjoyed eating them this summer. We had the most fun harvesting the Indian Corn. It was like opening a present each time we picked an ear of corn and pulled back the husk. There was so many different colors. They were all so pretty! Here’s what they looked like.

We gave most of it to friends and are using the rest as autumn decorations around the house. We will save some of the seeds to plant next summer.

Soccer Season Started

Today marked the start of soccer season for this year. I was only able to make it to the twins game today, but plan to go to Aidan and Kayli’s games next week. The twins team did very well. This is Jared and Riley’s first year in U8. There are several kids on their team that have never played soccer before, so this was their very first game. Their team name is “Green Asteroids”. This year I dyed the twins shoelaces too make it easier to tell them apart on the field. Jared has blue shoelaces and Riley has green ones.

Here’s a few pictures from their game.

I took pictures of all the kids before their games.

This is Aidan’s first year in U10. He has a really great coach and their team won 3-1 today. His team is the “Blazing Rockets”.

Kayli is in U12 again this year. She is on the youngest team in her division and their are a few girls on her team that haven’t played soccer before. They were playing against one of the oldest teams and lost today. Her team is the “Slimeinators”.

Falyn’s First Day in the Purple Room

Falyn had her first day of preschool today. This year she is in the purple room. She is thrilled to be in the purple room because she loves the color purple. This year she gets to stay for lunch. We packed her Tinkerbell lunch pail with all her favorite lunch items: juice box, cheese sandwich and rainbow goldfish.

She was so excited to she her friend Samantha. Samantha was in her class last year and Falyn was thrilled to learn she is in her class again this year. There are several other girls alo in her class this year that where in her class last year.

Falyn did really well at drop off. She lined up with the other kids, I gave her a hug and a kiss and she marched off to class all by herself. There are several kids in her class that have never been in preschool before. A lot of them were having a rough day, crying and clinging to their moms. I was happy to see that Falyn didn’t have a hard time with me leaving this year.

Aidan Got Braces

Aidan got braces today. It wasn’t too happy about getting them, but did really well at the orthodontist office. They put bands on the molars and the permanent teeth in the front. At the next appointment they will put the wire between the front teeth and the molars.

He will have the braces on for a couple of years. Then he will have retainers for a few years and then back to braces for phase 2.
