We had the Girl Scout end of the year party today at our pool. The girls received their awards for the year and Talia bridged to the Ambassador level.
Gold Shield Awards
So proud of Talia for being nominated for two Gold Shield Awards, one in science and one in social science. It is quite an honor to be nominated as a Sophomore for this award. Only a small percentage of the top students at the school get nominated.
Talia’s Confirmation
Talia was Confirmed today during a lovely mass presided over by Bishop Flores. Aunt Samantha, who is her godmother, was her sponsor.
Girl Scout SU3 Campout
I spent the weekend camping with Talia and Kayli and their girl scout troop. It was a fun weekend full of smores, campfire songs, camporee, archery and zip lining. All the girls had a great time.
The girls did the ninja game as their camporee activity.
Talia 16 Year Old Portraits
Talia’s 16th Birthday Party
Talia had her friends over today for her 16th birthday. She had a pool party and despite the lack of sunshine, everyone had a good time.
Talia’s 16th Birthday
Talia turned sixteen years old today. It is hard for me to believe that she could be that old. She is becoming such a wonderful young woman. She is smart, beautiful and compassionate. She is great at everything she tries. I am so blessed to have such a wonderful daughter. We had a family party for her tonight. Once the weather is better, she will have a pool party with her friends.
HUC PTA Founders Day Luncheon and Reflections Award Presentations
Talia received her Reflections Award of Excellence today at the HUC PTA Founders Day Luncheon and Reflections Award Presentations. Talia won the award for a poem she wrote. We enjoyed a lovely lunch at the SeaCliff Country Club. That was followed by the award presentations.
Girl Scout Thinking Day
Today was International Girl Scout Thinking Day. This year’s theme was: girls worldwide say “empowering girls will change our world”. My Girl Scout Troop was responsible for planning the event. They all worked very hard putting together and carrying out the event. They recruited Riley Carney, a 17 year old author, to be our speaker. She did a wonderful job, showing the girls how they can do anything they can want with their lives. In addition to the speaker, each Troop was responsible for putting together a display about a woman that made a difference in the world. All the girls took turns telling other girls about the woman their Troop selected and hearing about all the woman the other Troops selected. We had displays on: Amelia Earhart, Joan of Arc, Clara Barton, J. K. Rowling, Mildred Didrikson Zaharias, St. Theresa, Jane Goodall, Sacajawea, Mary Ann Hawkins, Helen Keller, Hedy Lamarr, Ruth Wakefield and Joan of Arc. We had over 100 girls in attendance and they had a great time.
Talia Won District 4 Award of Excellence
Talia’s entry for the Reflections Program won the Award of Excellence. Talia entered a poem that she wrote for this year’s theme “Together We Can”. Her entry now goes on to the California state competition. The District 4 competition was between all the individual school districts in Orange County. Each of the school districts selects the Award of Excellence winners from the best entries of each school. Those winners goes on to be compete with all the other winners in Orange County. Then the winners from Orange County go on to the State competition. The State PTA will then select the entries to send on to the National competition.
