Jared and Riley’s 8th Birthday

Jared and Riley turned 8 years old today. We celebrated their birthday with a family party this evening. They wanted to go ice skating for their birthday, but we won’t be able to fit it into the schedule until Saturday.

You stepped on a bee at the beach?
We have been going to the beach once a week since school got out. All the kids love going to the beach. The boys have become quite good boogie boarders this summer. Falyn still isn’t quite into boogie boarding, but insists on bring her pink Tweety Bird boogie board with us each time we go to the beach. We had no sooner gotten to the beach, dropped our stuff on the sand and taken off our shoes, when I hear Riley say, “Owe!”. He then starts screaming that he stepped on a bee. I looked down and see a bee thrashing about on the sand. That pretty much confirms that he did indeed step on a bee. He says he can’t walk, so Talia and Kayli carry him over to the lifeguard (we also set up right next to a lifeguard tower). The lifeguard makes sure he got all the of the stinger out, cleans it up and puts a band-aid on Riley’s foot. Afterwards, Riley sat on a towel on the beach complaining about the pain. That only laster for about 10 minutes, when he started playing in the sand. It wasn’t long before he put on his wetsuit, grabbed his boogie board and headed out into the waves.
Afterwards he made the comment that it didn’t hurt nearly as much as he thought a bee stung would hurt. I’m hoping that will mean he isn’t as terrified of them now. We also now know that he isn’t allergic to bees. It’s a good bet that Jared isn’t allergic to them either, since DNA seems to play a big part in whether or not a person is allergic to something. Since Falyn is allergic to bees, it is a relief to know that Riley and most likely Jared, are not allergic to them. But seriously, a bee sting at the beach? I could understand stepping on a stingray, but a bee? Why do these types of things only seem to happen to us?
The Twins Teaching Falyn To Read

We have started our summer learning program, spending about an hour each day doing workbooks, writing and reading. One of my goals this summer is teaching Falyn to read. She knows all the sounds and has been able to sound out small words for a while. Today the twins asked if they could work her on her BOB books. They were so cute, helping her sound out words and telling her what a good job she was doing.

Last Day of School
Today was the last day of school for Jared, Riley, Aidan and Kayli. They have all done great this year. Kayli got straight “A”s again and Aidan came close with only one “B+” and the rest “A”s. They are all excited about summer.
The day before the last day of school is Field Day. Here’s some pictures taken during that event.

1st Grade/6th Grade Picnic

The first graders and their 6th grade friends had their end of the year picnic today. They played games and had snacks. They all enjoyed the afternoon, even though it was very hot.

The Twins and Their DS’s

The twins got their DS’s for Christmas. They love playing on them and usually will play on them at the same time. They are absolutely obsessed with making sure their DS’s charge exactly the same amount. They coordinate plugging them in to charge and unplugging them as well. It is so funny to watch them. I’ve seen them grab their DS, look at each other, say “Ready? Unplug!” and then simultaneously unplug their DS. They go through the same routine when plugging them in. If one of them has his DS charging when the other’s isn’t charging, I’ve seen them get mad at each other about it.

Cub Scout Promotion Ceremony
Last night the Cub Scouts had their annual Promotion Ceremony. Aidan was promoted from Bears to Webelos and the twins were promoted from Tigers to Wolves.

Twins Square Dancing

Today the twins first grade class did square dancing. In the morning they danced with their parents and in the afternoon with their 6th grade buddy. Dan and I both attending in the morning and I went back int he afternoon to take pictures. I danced with Riley and Jared danced with Dan. Riley was adamant that we not switch partners! It was lots of fun and the kids all had a great time.

Twins Jump For Joy Show

The first graders have been working all year on their Jump For Joy Show. It was so much fun to watch. All the kids did such a good job and you could tell that they had a blast doing it.

Falyn on her bike, Riley on his scooter

It was so cute the way Riley was playing with Falyn out front this afternoon. He was riding his scooter with she was riding her bike. He stayed by her as they rode back and front on the sidewalk. I was taking pictures of the pool construction and could resist snapping some of them too. Aren’t they just adorable?
