Kayli’s First Day of 2nd Grade

Kayli had her first day of 2nd Grade today. She goes for a 1/2 day today then doesn’t go back till the day after labor day. Talia has her first day tomorrow. Kayli was sad that her two best friends are in the other class. She has lots of other friends in her class though. And I’m thrilled that she has the same teacher Talia had in 2nd grade. She is an awesome teacher.

Now Talia Knocked Out Kayli’s Tooth!

Kayli was playing her recorder again and showing Talia how to cover the hole on the bottom and make different notes. Talia was cover the bottom hole and somehow managed to knock out the other bottom tooth on the opposite side that was loose.

Kayli made me take pictures yesterday and today so she can do a page about it in her scrapbook.

Riley Knocked Out Kayli’s Tooth!

Kayli was practicing on her new recorder yesterday. Riley walked up and smacked the recorder, knocking out one of her bottom teeth! (It was a baby tooth and already very loose.) It was pretty funny. She went around showing Riley the whole where the tooth was and saying to him “See what you did!”

Kayli’s Two Front Teeth

Kayli’s top two teeth have been loose for quite sometime. We have been trying to get her to let us pull them out since before Christmas. One of them was twisted behind the other and it looked just horrible! Kayli had her expander removed a few weeks ago and now needed to get a retainer. I have been telling her all week that the dentist was going to pull those teeth, but every time we went to touch them she screamed like we were killing her! Today she went to the orthodontist to get her retainer. The orthodontist took one look at those two teeth and said they had to come out. She only wimpered a bit while the orthodontist pulled out the teeth. Her permanent teeth are already coming in, so it is a very good thing the orthodontist pulled them out. The receptionist was saying that we were lucky the orthodontist took them out because the regular dentist charges to do that! She got this cute little treasure box to put her teeth in. I’m not sure whether she will want to give them to the tooth fairy or not tonight.

Carving Pumpkins

Today we carved pumpkins while the twins were taking a nap. The kids really had fun. After being confronted with the opened pumpkin, Aidan decided he would rather paint one. Talia did her pumpkin almost entirely on her own this year. I only had to help her scoop it out a bit, she did all the carving herself. After they finished with the pumpkins, the girls wanted to roast pumpkin seeds. The turned out really good and everyone enjoyed eating them.

Kayli’s Unicorn Tea Party

Kayli had her birthday party yesterday. She picked out the theme herself – “Unicorn Tea Party”. Don’t ask me to explain how she came up with it or what it means. It turned out really cute and all the girls had a great time. We got these cute little tea cups from Birthday Express and had all the girls decorate them however they wanted, they got to take the cups home with them. They also made a ladybug frame and worked on starting a lanyard. The cake was gorgeous! (Even if I did spend *way* to much money on it.)

Happy Birthday Kayli

Today Kayli turned 7 years old. It is also her first day of first grade. She is growing into such a beautiful girl, both inside and out. One of the other moms told me that her daughter said Kayli was the nicest girl in school. Kayli likes her new teacher and although she would never admit it, is excited to be back in school.

So Much Drama!

Most kids are thrilled when they loose their first tooth, but not Kayli. In typical Kayli style, she totally fell apart when her first tooth came out today. I suppose I should have expected this, given her history of strong emotional responses to anything new. She was upset for several hours. Later I was able to get a happier picture.

My Little Political Activists

Last week a bunch of recall signs started popping up in my neighborhod. The kids wanted to know what recall meant and why the signs where there. We expained how some people didn’t like the job some of the school board members were doing and wanted to have an election to vote them out of that job. We also told them that we thought what the school board had done was the correct thing to do because they were standing up for their morals and protecting the kids. Some other no recall signs popped up saying “protect the kids no recall”. The girls saw those and liked them and decided all on their own to make their own sign and put it in our front window. They did this last night while I was at a meeting and DH was putting the boys to bed.

Sick Kids!

Aidan has been running a fever the last few days. The twins have also had one, but theirs has not been as high as his. Hopefully they will all be feeling better tomorrow. Having to deal with a bunch of sick kids is not fun at all!

Kayli definitely has 5th disease. She broke out in the rash over the weekend. It looks just like all the pictures of the 5th disease rash I was able to find on the internet. This pretty much confirms in my mind that I had 5th disease when I was sick last month.
