Girl Scout SU3 Campout

I spent the weekend camping with Talia and Kayli and their girl scout troop. It was a fun weekend full of smores, campfire songs, camporee, archery and zip lining. All the girls had a great time.

The girls did the ninja game as their camporee activity.

Science Fair

The Science Fair was held today for the 7th and 8th graders at Kayli’s school. Kayli’s experiment was to see if the pot type effected plant growth. She took measurements every day for 24 days and determined that the clay pots were the best for plant growth. She received the highest award given in her category, an honorable mention. It is unfortunate that the judges were allowed not to give out 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in her category. None of the other judges did that, even giving out a 1st and 2nd place in a category with just two entries. It really was not fair to the kids in Kayli’s category, especially when you see kids that spent only a day during their experiments winning 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. Because of this, Kayli went away from the Science Fair with the attitude that she should not have spent so much time working on her project. Any Science Fair judges reading this might want to keep this in mind before deciding not to award any 1st, 2nd and 3rd places when they are judging.

Girl Scout Thinking Day

Today was International Girl Scout Thinking Day. This year’s theme was: girls worldwide say “empowering girls will change our world”. My Girl Scout Troop was responsible for planning the event. They all worked very hard putting together and carrying out the event. They recruited Riley Carney, a 17 year old author, to be our speaker. She did a wonderful job, showing the girls how they can do anything they can want with their lives. In addition to the speaker, each Troop was responsible for putting together a display about a woman that made a difference in the world. All the girls took turns telling other girls about the woman their Troop selected and hearing about all the woman the other Troops selected. We had displays on: Amelia Earhart, Joan of Arc, Clara Barton, J. K. Rowling, Mildred Didrikson Zaharias, St. Theresa, Jane Goodall, Sacajawea, Mary Ann Hawkins, Helen Keller, Hedy Lamarr, Ruth Wakefield and Joan of Arc. We had over 100 girls in attendance and they had a great time.

Last Soccer Game of Season

Kayli’s soccer team finished off the season in 3rd place in Area K. They won their region and only lost one game the entire year. The team that won 1st place got to go to the 1/2 place game because they ended up with one goal more than Kayli’s team. (The two teams tied when they placed each other.) We are all happy with how the ended up the year, even though the didn’t get to advance. The Huntington Beach Independent had an article about their team in their paper on Nov. 24.

Kayli’s Soccer Team Wins 1st Place!

In what was the longest and most dramatic soccer game I have ever been too, Kayi’s team pulled out the win to become the U14 girls Region 55 champions. The game went into double overtime, during which the other team scored a goal. The other team just knew they had won at that point, but Kayli’s team did not give up and came back and scored a goal to tie the game. After the double overtime, it went into a shoot out with each team getting five shots on goal. They ended that with a 3-3 tie. Then it went to each team getting one shot on goal and if one scored and the other didn’t then that team would win. Our girl goes up and scores, their girl goes up and misses – giving Kayli’s team the win. All the girls on the team have worked so hard all season. They only lost one game the entire season. Since they won their regions championship, they will go on to play in the Area K playoffs next month.

Kayli Off To Sea World

Kayli left for Sea World with her class this morning. They will be gone for two days, returning in Friday. It should be a really fun camp. They will get to go “behind the scenes” and check out all the animals. I can’t wait to hear all about it when she gets back.

Kayli’s First Supper Club

Kayli had her first Supper Club tonight. This year she has moved up from Cotillion to Supper Club. In addition to teaching dancing and manners, table etiquette is added. Because Dan and Talia were both at meetings, I had to drop her off at was unable to stay. Dan and Talia picked her up after their meetings were over. Kayli said she had fun.
